In 1988, Adams Sensei began his training in Korean Taekwondo Oh Do Kwan in Indiana until December of 1990 when the school was closed.  Adams Sensei began classes at Renshi George Sheridan's school studying Okinawan Shuri-Ryu and Shintoyoshin Ryu Jujitsu.  Due to being at a young point in his life, Adams Sensei was taken out of Renshi Sheridan's school in 1992 by his parents.  In 1995, Adams Sensei was once again able to continue his martial arts training with the permission of Shihan Jackson he began training at Jackson's Karate Institute.  Adams Sensei joined the United States Air Force in 1999 and his first assignment took him to Great Falls, Montana.  In 2000, Sensei Adams opened "Adams' Self-Defense Academy" on Malmstrom Air Force Base.  Adams Sensei had met Hanshi Koeppel, who taught Shorin Ryu years before and attend his seminars annually.  After attending one of Hanshi Koeppel's seminars Adams Sensei asked his uncle, a black belt in Shorin Ryu to teach him.  However, being stationed nearly 2,000 miles away it was difficult, plus there were no Shorin Ryu teachers in the area, so he attended Sensei Koeppel's seminars and trained with his uncle when he visited home.  In 2001, Sensei Adams joined the United States Karate-Do Kai, which was founded by Hanshi Koeppel.  Then In 2003, Adams Sensei began transitioning into Shorin Ryu Karate and Kobudo.  In 2004, he closed the school due to being reassigned to North Carolina and continued to study Shorin Ryu while assigned at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.  In 2007, Adams Sensei began training under Kyoshi Paul Taylor in Shorin Ryu and founded "Okinawan Karate-Do Institute" teaching Shorin Ryu Karate and Kobudo.  Adams Sensei joined the Okinawa Karatedo Shorinryu Ryukyukan Karate Kobudo Federation in 2008 under Koei Nohara Hanshi in Okinawa, Japan.  With Nohara Sensei's permission and direction Adams Sensei began teaching Ryukyukan Shorinryu Karate and Kobudo.

Sensei was a Security Forces (SP) member for over eight years in the Air Force.  Adams Sensei was the Defensive Tactics Instructor for the 341 SFS Tactical Response Force (SWAT) while assigned to Malmstrom Air Force Base and the Defensive Tactics, Expandable Baton and Weapons Retention Instructor to the 4 SFS at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

Mrs. Adams began her martial arts training in March 1998 at the Wellness Center in Muncie, Indiana.  At this time, Mrs. Adams met her future husband, Jason Adams, who was assisting her Sensei since the dojo had just opened.  Mrs. Adams began training at both the Wellness Center and Jackson's Karate Institute, where Jason Adams was a student and assistant instructor.   In 1999, Jason Adams discontinued assisting at the Wellness Center as he prepared to join the Air Force.  Also during this time Jason and Anne were engaged.  Therefore, she followed her fiancé and became a fulltime student of Shihan Carl Jackson Sr. at Jackson's Karate Institute where she is ranked as a Sandan by Shihan Jackson.  In May of 2000, Jason Adams and Mrs. Adams were married and she relocated with him to where he was stationed in Montana.  Mrs. Adams served as Senior Instructor under Sensei Adams at "Adams' Self-Defense Academy" from 2000 to 2004.  In 2005, she began training in Shorin Ryu under Jason Adams.  Finally, Mrs. Adams is a North Carolina Certified Teacher, teaching fourth grade at North Drive Elementary School in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
